Tesla's roof dream is officially dead
Tesla has quietly discontinued Solar Roof, the tile-shaped solar panels Elon Musk hyped back in 2016 as the future of home energy. Electrek reports installers were told the product is no longer orderable, and Tesla's own website scrubbed the dedicated Solar Roof page, redirecting it to regular solar panels. Musk himself admitted in 2021 the project was plagued by "significant mistakes," delays and overspending, and a 2023 industry report suggested it never turned a real profit. Now it's gone for good, no announcement, just a quiet redirect.
