Heart Aerospace just flew the largest all-electric aircraft ever, the X1 demonstrator, for nearly 30 minutes over upstate New York, burning through just $5 of electricity thanks to four wing-mounted motors pumping out over a megawatt of power. It's not going commercial as-is (batteries still cap range at 100-200 miles), but it's laying groundwork for the hybrid-electric ES-30 airliner that United, Air Canada, and Mesa Air Group have already bet on, especially with jet fuel prices spiking from the Iran conflict.
