Tech leaders keep promising AI will shrink the workweek. Google engineers predicted a four day week by 2025, OpenAI told other companies to try it too. But according to a BBC investigation, workers inside OpenAI and Anthropic are grinding through crunch sprints of up to 90 hours a week, with weekend catch ups just to keep things from breaking. Meta, meanwhile, preached AI efficiency while laying off 1 in 10 staff. The tools are supposed to work for us, not turn humans into the backup plan.
