Congress May Have a Ghostwriter Problem, and It's Named Claude
Anonymous congressional staffers told Politico that AI-generated text is creeping into actual bills, the same ones that become federal law. One staffer called it "absolutely terrifying," noting outsiders are using ChatGPT or Claude to draft legislative language that then lands on the Office of Legislative Counsel's desk, requiring more cleanup time than writing from scratch. Requests for legislation reportedly jumped 72% from 2023 to 2025. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna even seemed to confirm, then walk back, that a staffer used Claude on a bill.
Nothing says "of the people, by the people" like a chatbot ghostwriting your rights.
