New documents show ICE collected DNA from nearly 920,000 people in 2025, making DHS the single biggest contributor to the FBI's criminal DNA database, CODIS. The catch: most of these people were never convicted of a crime, since being undocumented is a civil offense, not a criminal one. Families at a Texas detention center were swabbed, including young children, and refusing can get you criminally charged. Once in CODIS, your genetic profile stays there indefinitely, cross checked against crime scenes for the rest of your life.
