Google's AI bug hunters just made Chrome's whole year look lazy
Google says its AI-powered vulnerability hunting just had its biggest month ever, fixing more Chrome security bugs in June 2026 than in the previous two years combined. The Chrome Security team built Gemini-powered agents that scan the codebase for flaws, including one sandbox escape bug that had been hiding undetected for 13 years. The push is part of a bigger bet that AI can outpace human researchers, and increasingly, attackers, in finding and patching holes before they get exploited in the wild.
Nice to know the AI protecting your browser is also the reason it took over a decade to notice the hole in it.
