Meta wants friends in teen-limit misery, minus one
Fresh off its $12.1B teen-safety settlement, Meta is publishing an "open letter" begging TikTok and YouTube to adopt the same teen restrictions: two-hour daily caps, usage alerts, overnight blocks. Sounds noble, except the settlement's fine print says Meta's payout jumps to $17.1B if a trio of rivals, Snap included, joins in. Meta's letter conveniently calls out only TikTok and YouTube, leaving Snapchat, despite facing its own teen-addiction lawsuit, completely unmentioned. Funny how that math works out.
Nothing says "we care about kids" like doing the accounting first.
Why it matters
This isn't altruism, it's a legal chess move. If Snapchat sits out, Meta could save billions while looking like the industry's responsible adult. Watch whether regulators or Snap itself call out the obviously convenient omission.
