FlightAware Grounds Kalshi's Cancellation Betting Markets
FlightAware just sued Kalshi, claiming the prediction market platform used its flight data and trademark without permission to run betting markets on flight cancellations, something FlightAware's terms explicitly ban. Worse, critics say the markets could financially incentivize someone to actually cause cancellations, which is a wild sentence to type about air travel. Kalshi kept the markets live even after cease and desist letters, and one was still taking bets this week. FlightAware wants a jury trial, damages, and a shutdown order.
Nothing says "trust the system" like betting markets that reward chaos in the sky.
