Spider-Man got bootlegged, watched millions of times, and still broke records
A pirated copy of Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped onto X and stayed live for over seven hours, long enough to reach 5.9 million accounts and rack up 143,000 likes before Disney's takedown squad caught up. Somehow none of that piracy dented the box office: the film pulled in $72 million in previews, blowing past Avengers Endgame's 2019 record of $60 million, and has already grossed $168 million between previews and opening day. Sony's still playing it cool, projecting $325 million, but Endgame's throne is looking shaky.
Nothing kills hype like free access, except apparently nothing does.
