Your Worst Night Out, Now a Thirst Trap With 1.8M Followers
Mugshawtys turned arrest photos of young women into 'thirst trap' content for 1.8 million Instagram followers, letting strangers mock their looks and lives for years after a single bad night. After WIRED asked Meta and TikTok about the account, both platforms yanked it this week, though it still lurks on X with half a million followers. Founder Josh Jeffery says he's just repurposing public records and even helping women monetize the attention via OnlyFans. The women say it's ongoing harassment they never consented to.
Turning someone's worst night into content is called journalism when it's powerful people and 'engagement' when it's everyone else.
