Robot Named Lightning Just Out-Bolted Bolt
At Beijing's World Humanoid Robot Games, a bipedal bot called Lightning, built by phone maker Honor, sprinted 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, edging out Usain Bolt's 17-year-old 9.58 second world record. It's not a one-off stunt either: Lightning already won the Beijing Half Marathon in April, and a rival X-Humanoid bot cleared a standing high jump of 2.88 meters, blowing past the 1993 human record. Over 2,000 robots are competing across 51 events, a very literal flex in the US-China robotics race.
