SpaceX's trash is about to hit the Moon, and you might see it happen
On August 5, a spent SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage, leftover from a January 2025 Moon lander mission, is expected to slam into the lunar surface near Einstein crater at over 5,400 mph. Scientists predict the impact will kick up a massive debris plume, possibly bright enough to spot from Earth with a decent telescope, which would be the first ever recorded impact flash on the Moon's sunlit side. Researchers ran physics simulations to estimate the blast, but whether it's actually visible depends on timing, angle, and a very steady telescope mount.
